If found, scan the QR or open PawsGuardian. The tag pings the owner. It does not show a home address.
Most apps help owners track a pet with GPS, or ask the public to look. PawsGuardian starts the other way: a finder takes a photo, AI compares it with registered pet ID cards, and the owner is asked privately, “Did your pet get lost?” Only then do they chat — without learning each other’s identity.
A QR on the collar is the fast path. No tag? Take a photo. Finders do not need an account.
A match never auto-reveals a family. PawsGuardian asks the registered owner first. If they say no, the finder never sees them.
After yes, the finder gets a fuzzy map and a chat invite. They can request another photo from the pet’s ID card to make sure they have the right person.
A lost-pet app fails if it becomes a map of people’s homes and animals. PawsGuardian is built so a stranger with a camera cannot browse nearby pets, knock on the right house, or harvest owner names.

Visual AI is the backup. A scannable tag on every PawsGuardian ID is the fast path: finder scans, owner is pinged, no guesswork.
If a finder has to create an account before taking a photo, they will post on Facebook instead. Guest find first, optional account later.
If the pet is not registered, keep the report live, alert nearby similar pets, and generate a flyer the finder can share locally.
The cold-start problem is real: matching only works if owners registered. Partner clinics, rescues, and animal control to issue IDs at intake.
Extra photos from five angles, distinctive marks, microchip last-4, and “what is on the collar?” stop someone from claiming a pet that is not theirs.
Owners who already know a pet is gone can switch Lost mode so finders match faster, and nearby PawsGuardian users get a fuzzy alert.
Open PawsGuardian on two phones on the same Wi-Fi. Set one to Finder and one to Owner. They share the reunion in real time. Owner name and phone stay on the owner phone. Finders cannot open the pet registry.
